Sugar Export at New record Report: ISMA: The Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has said that the country's sugar exports have reached a record level in the last 2020-21 market session.

The federation added:

During the 2020-21 marketing season, which ended last September, the country's sugar exports grew 20 per cent to a record high of 7.1 million tonnes. This achievement has been made possible due to increased demand in the international market and financial support from the government.

During the 2019-20 marketing season (October-September), the export of sugar was only 5.9 million tonnes.

Sugar production in India

Sugar production is expected to be 31 million tonnes in the 2021-22 marketing season, which began on Friday.

The total stock of sugar

The total stock of sugar is estimated to be 39.5 million tonnes as compared to the previous 85 lakh tonnes.

Sugar Export at New record

Domestic demand for sugar

Presently, the domestic demand for sugar is estimated at 26.50 million tonnes and exports are estimated at 60 lakh tonnes. Sugar stock is estimated at 7 million tonnes at the end of the current market session.

India has been a major producer of sugar for the last 10 years.

In terms of ethanol production, it had an annual production capacity of 350 million liters in 2018. It is expected to reach 1,400 crore liters by 2025.

ISMA has set a target of using 6 million tonnes of surplus sugar for ethanol production by 2025.
